Comte’s necklace for GEMS AND LADDERS is made from mammoth bones the artist discovered during a residency in Siberia. The material has been formed into semicircular, polished discs, which hang from the neck and which can be set into 16 different configurations. The artist’s signature tactic, that of exploring the variations that emerge from the slight, regular movement of a small number of variables, is played out to full effect. Ancient material meets timeless form in a ludic contemporary dance.
